HYDERABAD: A division bench of the A P High Court comprising Chief Justice A R Lakshmanan and Justice V Eshwaraiah on Wednesday stayed for four weeks the deportation of Taslim Murad, wife of Mohd Azmat who was detained by the US government for alleged credit card fraud following the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11.
Taslim had earlier moved the single judge challenging the order made on June 17, requiring her to leave the country.
The petitioner had stated that she had come to India in March, 2001 with a valid Pakistan passport to stay in the country for a period of 90 days.
During that period, she was married to Mohd Azmat. She also gave birth to a child on December 13, 2001. The petitioner stated that she made an application for extension of her stay in India and without the said application being disposed of, the present order of deportation was made.
The bench however made it clear that it was open for the government to keep “close watch on the appellant and posted the case to September 19.
